Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) 'Gradually Emerging'

OpenAI's recent release of ChatGPT-o1 on December 5, 2024, has led some experts to believe that this model is approaching the capabilities of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Designed to enhance reasoning and provide more thoughtful responses, ChatGPT-o1 has been described by Wharton professor and AI specialist Ethan Mollick as a system that surpasses human performance in most intellectual tasks, though it lacks autonomy and self-direction. Vahid Kazemi, a member of OpenAI's technical team, stated that while AGI may not yet outperform humans in every task, it already excels in most. However, other experts, like Meta's AI Director Yann LeCun, caution that achieving true AGI will be a gradual process rather than a sudden event
